Spring Hotel Design

Designers: Kristen Haaksma and Maliya Nedrick

Concept Statement

We focused on the idea that a hotel room should be a place of rest and rejuvenation and it was important that we designed a room that would allow the guest to feel rested and restored. The spring season is the epitome of this feeling as the natural rebirth of the world occurs at this time, moods begin to improve, and the world's colours begin to brighten. We took inspiration largely from the traditional English countryside homes and English gardens; the dainty features, muted jewel tone colours, and the floral elements in traditional design was a large starting point to our concept. As our ideas grew, so did our creativity. One particular feature that stands out as significant to the design and concept is the wall and ceiling coverings. The bold yet dreamy green colour that is featured throughout the entire room reminded us the most of springtime. The more contemporary design of the feature wall paired with the traditional crown moulding and elaborate ceiling detail creates an ethereal design that feels new and original.
